How to Install a Gibson Freezer Relay
- 1). Unplug the freezer from the wall plug and move it away from the wall so the back can be accessed.
- 2). Attach the end of one alligator clip and wire to one side of the resistor, and attach the other plug and wire to the other side of the resistor.
- 3). Clip the free ends of the alligator clips to each screwdriver and then touch the two screwdriver ends to the freezer's capacitor leads. This will discharge the capacitor of its charge and will prevent injury from shock.
- 4). Pull the terminal box cover that covers the freezer relay off. It is located at the bottom right-hand side of most freezers and is usually held in place by a clip.
- 5). Pull the old relay out by hand. It is a square, H-shaped piece wound in copper wire. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the wire from the side of the relay.
- 6). Attach the wire to the new Gibson freezer relay and then plug the relay back into the freezer. Slip the terminal cover back over the relay and pop it back into place.
- 7). Slide the freezer back into place and then plug it back into the wall.
