How to Troubleshoot a Kenmore 80 Series Washer Leak at the Waste Water Outlet
- 1). Remove the drain hose and insert a garden hose. Use a garden hose hooked to a faucet and insert it into the standpipe. Run water into the standpipe and see if it runs freely. If it does, you can discount blockage of the drain as a cause of the leak. If it doesn’t, you will need to snake the drain. Snake the drain by inserting a drain snake until you reach a blockage and then force the snake through the blockage until it clears.
- 2). Re-insert the waste water hose. Check to see that the waste water hose from the back of the washer is inserted firmly and securely into the standpipe. The waste water pipe mustn’t be taped and sealed into place because the drain requires the air gap between waste hose and drain pipe to work.
- 3). Verify that the waster water pipe is hooked and attached to the drain standpipe. Use a garbage tie if necessary to attach the drain hose to the standpipe.
- 4). Observe the washer pumping waste water into the drain standpipe through the waste water hose during a cycle. You should hear the water being drained.
- 5). Measure the drain opening. Verify that the standpipe opening is at least 39 inches above the floor. The drain hose must not be more than 96 inches above the floor.
