It's very important that if you experience panic attacks that you know how to control a panic attack.
This can mean the difference between keeping your calm and a trip to the hospital.
While people rarely die of a simple panic attack, it's good to know how you can minimize the symptoms you experience during an attack.
It can't be extremely difficult to stop the attacks altogether, but reducing the intensity of them is far easier.
The first thing you will want to do is talk to a doctor.
He can prescribe you medicine that will help keep your attacks under control.
However even though some of these medications can be extremely effective, you should still know certain ways or methods of controlling them without depending completely on pills.
To control a panic attack you need to find something to do that is calming or soothing for you.
This can be anything from a stress ball to repeating a phrase in your head over and over till you feel like you have some sense of control over yourself again.
Since erratic breathing is common in panic attacks, you need to make sure your breathing is steady and even so you don't hyperventilate.
If you are able to, lay down and rest your head firmly on a pillow.
Once you are in a relaxing posture, you can fill your thoughts with calming images.
The main cause of panic attacks is excessive stress, so therefore the best solution is to counteract the stress with things you find calming, whatever they may be.
Just think of what you say or do for someone else to calm them down, then try it on yourself when you feel an attack coming.
The main thing to remember through it all is you must be calm.
Thinking more about your problem or situation that set you off in the first place will not help you, it will likely make the attack even worse.
