How to Buy AIMCO Preferred Stock
- AIMCO's preferred stock, like all preferred stock, is different from its common stock. Preferred stock receives dividends before common stock does; it also receives priority status over common stock owners if AIMCO goes bankrupt.
- Having a brokerage account will allow you to purchase AIMCO preferred stock. Your broker will charge a commission; however, if you choose a discount broker the commission will be nominal. You must deposit enough funds into your account to cover the stock's purchase price and commission.
- Submit your AIMCO preferred stock order to your broker. Include the number of shares you want, purchase instructions and ticker. Some companies have the same ticker for both their common stock and preferred stock; however, AIMCO is different. The ticker for AIMCO's common stock is AIV, while its preferred stock tickers are as follows: AIV.G, AIV.T, AIV.U, AIV.V, or AIV.Y.
