Handy Tips Everyone Ought to Know When Buying an Australian Washing Line

The original Australian washing line was the rotary or umbrella washing line.
Originally invented by Gilbert Toyne in 1926, it didn't bring commercial success until after 1946 when it was 're-invented' by the company now know as Hills.
It proved to be an unstoppable success.
That's all very well I hear you cry, but how does it work! Well the umbrella shape swings round so washing can be easily hung on the different lines.
The diameter is quite small but the number of lines looping round and round mean a lot of washing can be put on.
Many versions have a lever that hoists this Australian washing line higher into the breeze.
Nowadays many versions are designed to twist and pull out of the ground, so that when not being used they can be removed from the garden to make more space for games or barbeques.
This Australian washing line is good for those with a lot of washing or lots of outdoor space.
If you don't have that much space you could consider a fold down Australian washing line.
These attach against a wall and when not in use these fold almost flat against the wall to keep themselves well out of the way.
Despite their small size they can still hold substantial amounts of washing.
There are some fold down washing lines that are designed to fit in long narrow spaces, like a small pathway.
They still hold a lot of washing because they are longer than the original washing line.
Or this Australian washing line can come in a compact version for smaller gardens or even for balconies.
An even smaller Australian washing line is the retractable washing line.
The lines are contained in a small box which fits to a wall or a post.
When needed they pull out, up to 10 metres, and attach to another wall or post.
When not in use they slide easily back in out of the way.
These are good for people who don't want the hassle of having to remove a rotary clothesline when it is not wanted.
They can be positioned low to the ground so would be a good idea for disabled users too.
All these Australian washing lines tend to come in a wonderful variety of colours and some companies will even tint the washing lines any colour at all!
