    • 1). Limit your cat's access to the furniture on which it typically chews. This may mean confining the cat to a specific room and paying close attention whenever it comes out.

    • 2). Spray bitter apple cat repellent on the furniture. This spray stops cats from chewing because it tastes bad. Alternatively, apply citrus oil to the furniture, since cats do not like the way it smells.

    • 3). Place cat-specific toys in close proximity to the furniture the cat likes to chew.

    • 4). Allow the cat into the room with the furniture.

    • 5). Spray the cat with a small amount of water, shake a can filled with coins near it or say "No" in a firm voice if the cat attempts to chew the furniture.

    • 6). Direct the cat's attention away from the furniture and toward the toys.
