How to Get the Gauge Cluster Out of a 1998 Buick Park Avenue
- 1). Disconnect the car's negative battery cable with a wrench.
- 2). Unscrew and remove the sound insulator panel located at the bottom of the dash to access the wiring under the steering column.
- 3). Disconnect the wiring connecting the gear indicator window to the cluster. This should have a small folder-like connector.
- 4). Remove the screws for the trim plate covering the gauge cluster with the screwdriver and remove the plate.
- 5). Move the gear shift lever on the steering column to the "1" setting -- this setting is below "D" -- to clear space for the cluster's removal.
- 6). Unscrew the mounting screws for the cluster itself with the screwdriver and remove the cluster from the instrument panel. Unplug any electrical connectors at the rear of the cluster.
