How to Compare Cost of Medical Procedures
- 1). Obtain an estimate from the doctors' offices itemizing all of the fees they foresee being charged. This is especially helpful when comparing the costs of overall care. Sometimes, it makes more financial sense to have one office perform some aspects of care, such as an annual physical, and another office handle other aspects, such as vaccines.
- 2). Ask who will be performing your care. Ensure that you obtain the title of that individual. Some doctors' offices are overseen by a medical doctor but have all of their patients seen by nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Expect to pay more for services performed by a medical doctor; they have more education and training than their counterparts.
- 3). Compare the distance and travel expenses of the doctors' offices. Many people consider traveling overseas to obtain inexpensive medical care. In some cases it makes financial sense, but in other cases, the amount of money spent on travel negates any savings.
