The hardest thing about learning to day-trade is the mindset associated with winning and losing money.
No system, no matter how good it is will produce 100% winning trades.
So learning to deal with this emotional roller coaster is vital.
Tony Robbins describes this psychology as limiting beliefs.
When you have a few losing trades, you start to focus on these and if you continue to focus only on the possibility of losing you set up a limiting belief system.
Once you have setup this belief system you sub-conscious mind will cause this to be your reality.
This is referred to as self-sabotage.
Therefore it is vitally important to setup a positive winning belief system.
This is one of the most important parts of Day-Trading, whether E Minis Futures or any other form of trading.
The three aspects of your psychology are Focus, Physiology and Language Patterns.
Focus Focus, is just that.
What you find your mind continually thinking about.
Do you expect to win, or do you worry about the consequences if you do not win.
Physiology Physiology is how you hold your body.
When you are trading, do you have you shoulders back, head held up and breathe deeply.
Or do you find yourself, slouched with your head down and breathing shallowly.
Are you sitting up straight in your chair, or are you smashing the computer in frustration.
Language Patterns Language Patterns are how you talk to yourself and others.
Are you saying positive things about your trading? Do you have the expectation of winning in you speech? Or do you find yourself saying things like, "I never win", or "this always happens to me", "trading is difficult, risky" and other self abuse.
If you have limiting beliefs around Day-Trading, you can help resolve these limiting beliefs with NLP techniques such as, Affirmations, Visualization and Hypnotism.
Lyn McTaggart, author of "The Field" and "The Intention Experiment" suggests that Belief, Meditation, Visualization and Gratitude are the basis of intention and are necessary in creating the life you desire.
Belief The copious evidence of the placebo effect demonstrates the extraordinary power of belief.
In day-trading have belief in your signals, trading plan and system is vital.
Paper trading can be very effectively used in creating this belief or certainty.
Being able to see past real results and others testimonials will also help.
Meditation Meditation is the practice of focusing your mind.
By slowing down your brainwaves into an Alpha state and then focusing on one thing.
Usually your breath or a mantra.
By focusing on one thing you can quite the chatter in your mind.
Continuing practice can increase this period to around 20 minutes, which is generally accepted as enough to increase your focus or intention powers.
Visualization Visualization is the practice of "seeing" the outcome you desire.
This is best done in the Meditative state.
Important elements of visualization are to include as much detail as possible, including pictures, sounds, smells and tastes.
However the most important thing is the emotional feelings that are involved, especially the end result.
See and feel yourself experiencing the winning trade! Gratitude Gratitude or thankfulness of success and the winning trades puts you in the right emotional feeling state as well as the right expectation, both of which are very important.
In her book "The Intention Experiment" Lyn McTaggart points out how important it is to have a space where you have trained yourself to experience this positive intention or belief.
The place where you practice you trading is one of these spaces.
David from 21st Century E minis Day-Trading uses this exact psychology.
He says, "that his desk where he trades is the most comfortable place, and where he expects to perform winning trades".
This is what you need to do too! The easiest way to deal with this emotional psychology of day trading is by using a Live Trading Room.
This is especially helpful when you are learning to trade.
A Live Trading Room is a virtual trading environment in which day-traders of all skill levels can collaborate, discuss and learn in the presence and guidance of professional mentors.
