- The LTX1040 is powered by a 19-horsepower Kohler Courage single-cylinder engine. It uses a fully pressurized automotive-style oil pump with spin-on oil filter. Oil capacity is 1.6 quarts. The fuel tank holds 3.3 gallons.
- Power is transmitted by a twin-belt engine-to-transmission drive. The drive train features an automatic, continuously variable transmission with cruise control. Transmission fluid capacity is 19 ounces. The LTX1040 has a top speed in forward and reverse of 5.2 miles per hour.
- Steering is a manual pinion and sector system. With a wheelbase of only 47.5 inches, this mower delivers a super-tight turning radius of just 12 inches. The frame is robotically welded 9-gauge steel, and the hood and grill are high-impact ABS that resists dents and corrosion. The LTX1040 has disc brakes and a 12-position operator's seat.
- Instrumentation includes a digital hour meter, change oil service minder, battery voltage monitor, park brake and PTO start sequence LEDs. Safety systems such as neutral start, an operator presence sensor and a brake pedal lock are standard.
- The 42-inch, twin blade mowing deck is driven by a heavy-duty Kevlar belt and made of 12-gauge steel. It rides on four anti-scalping wheels.
