There is no getting away from the fact that for your own peace of mind you need to consider motorhome insurance.
A fully comprehensive policy could be worth its weight in gold if the worst should happen.
While motorhome insurance may be an added cost that you may have to find each month, there are many ways that you may be able to save on the premiums, which may all go towards you possibly getting cheap motorhome insurance.
  • Sometimes the insurance provider may give you a discount if you are a member of a motoring club.
You could check to find out if the provider you are considering taking your insurance with, considers this.
  • Security pays a huge part in the cost of your insurance.
For instance if your motorhome is not locked away during the time you are not using it then it is a larger target for thieves.
It could also be a target for vandals and accidental damage if parked by the side of your home on a carport.
If you store it in a secure place, this may go towards you getting cheap motorhome insurance.
  • If you install such as a steering lock, an immobiliser or a tracking device on your motorhome the insurance provider could also offer you cheaper premiums for your insurance as again it may make your motorhome much harder to steal.
  • There may always be a certain amount of excess asked for by the provider.
This is the amount of money that you have to find out of your own pocket if a claim is made on the insurance.
You may offer to pay more by way of excess and this may help to keep down the premiums.
However, do give some thought to the fact that in the event of a claim, you may have to find this amount of excess as a lump sum and if you were to make more than one insurance claim per year then you could lose any benefits you saved on premiums.
  • If you do not plan to venture outside of the UK with your motorhome, you might want to check to find out if you may get insurance that comes without European cover.
This is only needed if you travel around Europe and your insurance may work out cheaper if you do not need it.
  • If you only use your motorhome for a few months during the summer then you may want to consider looking at limited mileage insurance for your motorhome.
This means that you may state a certain amount of miles that you travel each year in your motorhome and the rest of the time, your motorhome may be under lock and key.
  • If you have an older model of motorhome, you may want to consider taking out third party fire and theft or third party only insurance.
These two options could lead to you getting cheap motorhome insurance, but they come with very little cover for your vehicle.
