How to Stop Snap in Adobe Illustrator
- 1). Click on File in Illustrators top tool bar. This option is directly to the left of the Illustrator option. From the drop-down menu, select the file for which you wish to disable snap. This is important ,as changes you make to snapping on one file do not remain if you switch to another.
- 2). Choose View from the top tool bar. A menu appears. Near the bottom of the menu is a section with the options "Show Grid," "Snap to Grid" and "Snap to Point."
- 3). Look to the left of the options "Snap to Grid" and "Snap to Point". If Snap is currently enabled, a checkmark will appear beside one or both of these options.
- 4). Click on the option with the checkmark beside it. This automatically disables the option and closes the menu. If both options have checks, re-open the View menu to click the option with the checkmark remaining. To verify that you disabled Snap, open the menu again and make sure no check marks appear beside the snap options.
- 5). Go to View and hover the cursor over Perspective Grid. This opens a sub menu with additional options. Find the Snap to Grid option. Click it if it has a checkmark beside it.
- 6). Click on Window in the top tool bar and select "Transform." This opens Illustrator's Transform window. At the bottom of this window is the option "Align to Pixel Grid." This is another form of snapping. If the box does not have a checkmark inside it, the option is already disabled. If it does, click it to remove the check mark.
