How to Upgrade Windows XP Home Edition to Professional
- 1). Back up the files on your Windows XP system just in case they do not transfer over to the new operating system.
- 2). Power down your computer and insert the Windows XP Professional Upgrade CD.
- 3). Wait for your computer to recognize the CD. Select "Install Windows" to start the installation wizard. If your computer does not recognize the CD, select "Start", then "Run" and type "CD drive letter:\setup.exe". Then click "OK". This will run the CD.
- 4). Select "Upgrade" when prompted by the installer as to the installation type.
- 5). Continue to follow the onscreen directions until you reach the end. Select "Finish" to complete the installation. Your computer may shut down and restart itself. When the computer powers back up, you should notice that it says "Windows XP Professional" instead of "Windows XP Home Edition." Check your files to make sure everything transferred over. If it did not, then insert your backup CD to re-install your backed-up files.
