Traverse City Film Festival 2011 - Documentary Award Winners

The Traverse City Film Festival, founded in 2005 by documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, presents a total of 35 awards, about half of which are designated specifically for nonfiction films, and recognize the best direction, cinematography and sound, as well as best overall documentary in American and foreign categories. There are also special Founder's Awards given to documentaries.

Here's a list of the awards presented documentary films at the 2011 Traverse City Film Festival, held from July 26 to 31, 2011.

Best Non-Fiction Short Film:
  • Library of Dust - Ondi Timoner, Robert James, USA

US Documentary Jury Awards:
  • Best US Documentary Film - Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football - Rashid Ghazi
  • The Documentary Everyone In America Should See Award - Hot Coffee - Susan Saladoff
  • Outstanding Documentary Cinematography & Editing - When The Drum Is Beating - Ed Marritz (Cinematography) and Nancy Kennedy, Federico Rosenzvit and Hemal Trivedi (Editing) -
  • Award for Most Life Affirming Documentary - Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey - Constance Marks

World Documentary Jury Awards::
  • Best Foreign Documentary Film - Project Nim - James Marsh
  • Best Direction in a Foreign Documentary Film - Gnarr - Gaukur Úlfarsson
  • Best Editing in a Foreign Documentary Film - Shut Up, Little Man! An Audio Misadventure - Bryan Mason
  • Best Cinematography in a Foreign Documentary Film - Presspauseplay - Hannes Isaksson
  • Special Jury Prize, Foreign Documentary Film - You've Been Trumped - Anthony Baxter
