Walleye Fishing Tips - How to Use Walleye Lures - Lead Core

One major challenge when it comes to walleye fishing is adjusting to a wide range of depths.
At times walleye can be in only a couple feet of water-at others down fifty or sixty feet.
Trying to cover such a difference with a limited number of fishing lures can be a daunting task without knowledge of the right techniques.
For this reason knowing and using lead core is essential for any walleye angler serious about catching a lot of fish.
Lead core is a fishing line with an inner core made of lead which makes it heavy and allows it to sink.
It is made of a different color every 30 feet, allowing you to easily gauge how much line you have out.
With lead core you can put nearly any walleye lure at whatever depth you need-an ability that opens countless options for you to consider.
Your fishing lure depth will depend on how much line you have out and how fast you are trolling.
More line and slower speeds will go deeper, less line and faster speeds will go shallower.
Either factor alone can be used for small adjustments which you'll need to make to find the right depth.
Often the smallest changes can make all the difference.
Your number one mission, even before your walleye lure choice, is getting the lure in the right position.
Only then do you have any chance at all.
A fishing rod with a soft-tip will work well with lead core.
This can tell you how your walleye lure is running by the steady vibration, which is something that comes with a little practice.
Keeping your lures properly tuned and running straight can make a big difference.
Also lead core does not stretch, so adjusting your drag a bit looser is a good way to compensate.
Using multiple lines can be a very good walleye fishing technique.
This works particularly well if you are following a break and are working with various depths at once.
Lead core makes this very doable, and it can result in getting to walleye that would otherwise be difficult.
Varying your pole lengths will help with your lines tangling as well.
During the summertime when many walleye are suspended is a perfect situation where lead core is easiest and most effective.
Using your electronics correctly will determine your success.
The idea is to put your walleye lure just above the fish.
Walleye are ambush predators, and will attack their prey from below and behind.
If your fishing lure is underneath them, chances are it will be ignored.
A common mistake many walleye anglers make is letting too much line out.
Your lead core shouldn't be dragging on the ground, and your crankbait will be much more effective as well as avoid many more snags if it is up off the bottom.
Remember it is better to miss high than miss low, but sometimes that window is pretty small.
Mastering the use of lead core will allow you to use walleye lures in ways you never could have otherwise.
Though not the only method for doing so, it is the easiest and most inexpensive way.
Getting your fishing lure to the proper depth is a big part of the battle.
Without it, a losing battle.
