- 1). Connect your HP laptop to a power source. You'll want it plugged in in the event that the formatting process takes longer than expected.
- 2). Close any programs you currently are running.
- 3). Open PC Recovery by clicking "Start," "All Programs," "System Recovery" and "PC Recovery."
- 4). Click "Next" and the PC restarts.
- 5). Click "OK" when you are presented with the Welcome to PC Recovery message.
- 6). Click on "System Recovery." Once you click this option, your HP computer running Windows XP is completely formatted.
- 7). Restart your computer after the formatting process has completed.
