How to Change the Upholstery of Your Chair
But instead of paying for the costly services of a professional, reupholster your chair on your own.
In this article you will know the easy steps on reupholstering a chair.
Acquire the measurements The first thing you need to do is to measure the back of your chair and the seat.
Use a tape measure to get the exact dimensions.
Cut the plywood Once you have your measurements of the two parts of the chair, transfer these unto a piece of plywood.
Then, get a power saw and cut out the measurements from the plywood.
You should be able to acquire two pieces, wherein one is for the back of the chair, and the other is for the seat.
Create holes on the chair Use a power drill to create a hole on the chair adjacent to each of the four corners of each piece of plywood that you cut where the plywood will be attached to your chair.
Cut two pieces from the foam Measure and mark the same dimensions you have acquired from the seat and the back of the chair on the foam.
Then, use an electric kitchen knife to cut out the two patterns from the foam.
Prepare and cut the fabric Get your fabric and place this facing down on the flat surface.
Then, get your foam and plywood and place these over the fabric.
After that, use a sharp pair of scissors to cut out the fabric around the plywood and foam.
Be sure that there is enough allowance on the edges of the fabric that will allow it to fold over the plywood.
Pull and staple the fabric to the wood Pull the fabric edges towards each of the four corners of the plywood and staple these in place.
Pull the areas of the fabric in between the four corners, as well, and also staple these to the plywood.
By securing the fabric on all four corners of the plywood, it will be much easier to pull all the other edges of the fabric and then stapled on the wood.
Continue pulling all loose edges of the fabric and be sure to staple them really close to each other on the wood.
Screw the seat to the chair Turn the chair over and then attach the seat to the chair.
Use the power drill to place the wood screw and secure the seat to the chair in place.
Then, turn the chair upright and attach the back of the chair with screws.
If you plan on repainting the chair, it is advisable that you do so before attaching your upholstered seat and back.
