How to Reformat & Reinstall Windows 98 on a Gateway 2000 E-3000
- 1). Place the Windows 98 CD in the CD drive tray, then boot your Gateway computer. A menu will pop up asking a series of options. Choose the first option: "Start Windows 98 setup from CD ROM." This will begin the installation process.
- 2). Press Enter when prompted to begin the installation. Select "Yes" when you are prompted with "Configure unallocated space." When prompted, enter "Yes" to "Enable large disk support." The system will reboot and format the drive.
- 3). Press Enter to continue, after reboot. You will see "Welcome to Windows 98 setup." Click the "Continue" button, then select the directory where Windows will be installed (choose the default, c:\windows).
- 4). Choose "typical setup" from the menu. Then allow the setup to start copying files over to Windows. This process can take up to an hour depending on the speed of your computer.
- 5). Allow system to restart. Enter user name and accept terms of use.
- 6). Install your old programs and copy back your data.
