How to Reset a Computer to an Earlier Date
- 1). Turn on the computer. Press the power button, and wait until the computer is fully on. Do not open any software programs. Make sure you have plenty of battery charge if you are using a laptop. If not, use the AC adapter.
- 2). Place your cursor on the "Start" icon for a PC or "Apple" menu on a Mac. Scroll up and then click on "Control Panel."
- 3). Double-click on the "date and time" icon in your Control Panel. A window will pop up, providing the day's date and time for a PC. Graphics may vary by computer. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
- 4). Click on the icon that reads, "Change date and time." A window will appear, asking permission to continue. Click on the "Continue" button.
- 5). Follow the text prompts to change the date and time.
For PCs: To change the hour, double-click the hour, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value. To change the minutes, double-click the minutes, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value. To change the seconds, double-click the seconds, and then click the arrows to increase or decrease the value. When finished, click "OK."
For Macs: Highlight the month, day or year you want to set, and then change it, either with the up and down arrows or by typing the correct numbers. Highlight the hour, minute or second you want to set, and then change it, either with the up and down arrows or by typing the correct numbers. - 6). Change the time zone. Click on "Change time zone." Select your current time zone in the Settings dialog box. Click "OK" when finished. For Macs, click on the "Set time zone" button to select your time zone by choosing the nearest major city from the alphabetical list provided.
