- 1). Download the ODIN Samsung Flash utility from Android Forums, XDA Developer Forum or a third-party download site. Download a Samsung 2.3 ROM from XDA Developers Forum or a similar site offering ROMs for this device. Download the latest firmware as well. Store these files in an easy-to-access location on your computer. Extract any files packaged as a ZIP file. You should end up with a TAR and PIT file.
- 2). Turn off your Epic. Turn it back on while holding down three buttons on the phone, the "Power" button, "Volume Down" and "Home" button. Connect your Samsung Epic to the computer, using your data cable. Wait for your computer to recognize the smartphone before continuing.
- 3). Double-click the ODIN file to launch this program. Check the "auto-reboot" box.
- 4). Click "PIT" and point the file browser at the PIT file you downloaded and extracted. Click "PDA" and choose the 2.3 Android ROM TAR file. Click "Start" to begin the flashing process.
