How to Make a Header in Photoshop
- 1). Open the Adobe Photoshop program onto your computer.
- 2). Open a new image file by clicking "File" near the top left-hand corner of the screen. When a drop-down list appears, click on "New." This will make a pop-up window appear requesting dimensions. Fill in the most common header dimensions, which are 800 pixels for the length, and 200 pixels for the height. Type in 200 for the DPI, or "dots per inch," then click "OK." The canvas will appear inside the screen, ready to be customized.
- 3). Change the color of the header by clicking on the color tiles inside the "Toolbox," which is a vertical box containing editing tools to the right of the screen. Double clicking the colored tile will bring up a large window containing the color spectrum. Select the color you want from the spectrum, and it will replace the one in the tile. Click on the "Paint Bucket" in the toolbox, which is a button that looks like a paint bucket, then click on your image to fill the color in.
- 4). Add text to your header by clicking on the "Text" tool inside the toolbox, which looks like a capital "T." Click on your header image, and hold down the left mouse button as you drag a marquee box across your image. Click inside the marquee box to begin typing. Type a title or message that relates to your website, then edit the look of the words using the text tools at the top, center of the screen. These will allow you to change the color, size and font of the text.
- 5). Add images to the header by clicking on "File" and selecting "Open" from the list. A pop-up browse window will appear. Locate your image on your computer, then click "OK" to open it. Copy the image by clicking "Select" at the top of the screen, and clicking "Select All." This will highlight the image. Click "Edit" at the top of the screen, then select "Copy." Click on your header image, and click "Edit" then "Paste" to paste the image onto the header. Resize your image by clicking "Edit" and selecting "Transform" from the list. A side menu will appear. Click on "Resize" from the list, which will allow you to resize the pasted image.
