How to Rig Soft Swimbaits
- 1). Slide a 1/4-ounce or smaller bullet weight onto the end of the main fishing line. Position the weight with the smaller end pointing up the line.
- 2). Tie a size 2/0 to 4/0 extra wide gap (EWG) hook to the end of the line below the bullet weight with a Palomar knot. Moisten the knot and pull tight against the hook eye. Trim excess line from the free end of the knot with scissors.
- 3). Hold the swimbait in one hand so the nose is accessible. Hold the hook shank with your other hand.
- 4). Insert the point of the hook into the nose of the bait. Push the point 1/2 inch into the swimbait. Turn the point down and out the bottom of the soft plastic lure. Push the threaded swimbait up the hook and onto the keeper bend.
- 5). Turn the hook point back toward the body of the lure. Insert the point into and through the lure. Straighten the lure on the hook between the keeper bend and the point. Insert the point of the hook slightly under the surface of the lure to rig it weedless.
