    Download Adobe Reader

    • 1). Visit the Adobe Reader site and click on the yellow "Download" button near the bottom. Uncheck the optional free McAfee virus scan to skip downloading software that is not connected to Adobe Reader.

    • 2). Click "OK" or "Allow" to let the installation continue. It will automatically proceed.

    • 3). Restart your browser.

    Troubleshooting: Common Problems

    • 1). Save the PDF document to your desktop by right-clicking on the link and clicking "Save link as..." if it is a PDF document on a webpage.

    • 2). Click "File" in the upper left-hand side of your browser, click "Open File..." and click "Desktop." Find the document and then click "Open." If this method works, the Adobe Reader software is working correctly on your system but not working properly on the website's server.

    • 3). Restart your computer and try to open a PDF document from your browser again. This often resolves many issues.

    Troubleshooting: Clear Temporary Internet Files

    • 1). Open your Internet Explorer Web browser. Delete all the temporary browser files by clicking on "Tools" at the top and "Internet Options" at the bottom, clicking the "General" tab and then clicking "Delete Files." Restart the browser and then find and open the PDF.

    • 2). Open your Mozilla Firefox browser. Delete all the temporary files by clicking on "Tools" at the top, "Clear Recent History," the drop-down arrow and "Everything." Close and restart the browser and then find and open the PDF.

    • 3). Open your Netscape browser. Click on "Edit" at the top, "Preferences," "History," and then click on the "Clear History" option. Close and restart the browser and then find and open the PDF.

Alternative: Convert PDF Files to HTML or Text

    • 1). Visit Adobe's convert PDF to HTML or Text link with your browser.

    • 2). Right-click on the PDF link in your browser and click "Copy Link Location" and enter it into the first blank space next to "URL." Click on the bullet next to "HTML 3.2" to see your document with the PDF's original formatting or click "Text" to see plain-text formatting.

    • 3). Click the corresponding bullet to answer to the question, "Why aren't you using Adobe Reader to open the PDF?"

    • 4). Click the arrow in the drop-down box labeled "Select One" and choose your operating system from the choices in the list. Click "Convert," and the PDF will be shown in the next page.
