The Husband and the Menopause
You may be reading this article as a husband in his late forties, early fifties with a wife who doesn't seem herself.
Full of aches and pains, she keeps complaining she is too hot, and you notice, or perhaps you don't notice that her 'time of the month' is no longer predictable.
In fact perhaps you're not even sure when it last happened.
Well just perhaps you should read this article.
On the other hand you may be a wife, or certainly a woman in her mid forties who is beginning to think that the hot flashes, joint pain, irregular periods, is telling you that this may be symptoms of the menopause.
Your problem is that your husband, or partner just doesn't seem to notice, or for that matter care.
Perhaps you need to make him read this article.
I make no excuses but the article is written from a male perspective, and may therefore not be as well informed about the specifics of the menopause, but in fact that is not its' purpose.
It is intended as a small wake up call to men who quite frankly have no idea at all what our ladies are, or are about to go through.
In truth, I can't possibly know either, being a mere male, but there are some things I now know and understand that I didn't before.
The most important single fact is that your wife is showing the signs, and she will be all too aware of them, because she will have friends who are in the menopause.
She will therefore know this change in life is upon or almost upon her.
To reach the end of your child bearing years for a woman with children must be bad enough, and let's face it, men like Rod Stewart show that it is possible to father children long into middle age.
For a women who has never had children it is the time when that last glimmer of hope of being fulfilled as a mother is snuffed out.
You gentlemen are going to be faced with a woman whose temperature centre is out of control, whose hormones are oscillating wildly, and therefore her behaviour patterns will no longer be predictable.
She will be emotional, even depressed, and very likely off lovemaking in a big way as it may be painful for her.
There are other symptoms you should know about, but would do well to ignore, mainly weight gain.
In other words be tactful.
In conclusion this is a time for tact, loads of sympathy, TLC,lots of cuddles, and above all patience.
I am told it will pass, that is the good news, the bad news is that it can take years!!
