  Volleyball leagues are spread out all over the United States and have a set number of rules which apply to most of them, depending on what type of volleyball they are playing and who is sponsoring or funding each league. Many of these rules vary based on times or qualifications for their teams. Knowing league rules helps teams to plan to practice, recruit and play together better.
  
  

NY Urban Professionals Volleyball League

• Played after school in New York City's school district, the NY Urban Professionals Volleyball League allows kids to play after school in a recreational volleyball league which plays indoor gym volleyball. Game starting times range from 6:30 in the evening to 9:30 in the evening. Each game must start fifteen minutes from it's start time if it is not the last game being played that day, or else it will have to be pushed to another date or forfeited, so that it does not throw off other start times. Four players are the minimum number a team must have to play a game, otherwise a forfeit will be called. All other standard US Volleyball Rules apply.
  
  

Co-Ed Volleyball Rules

• Many leagues around the country have league rules which apply to both men and women playing volleyball together on teams. To play in these leagues there must be a minimum number of men and women on each team when you start the game, depending on the type of volleyball you are playing. For six-player games, there must be a minimum of at least two men or two women. For three-person games, there must be a minimum of at least one man or one woman. In some leagues, male and female players are also both required to touch the ball during a rally, at least once per rally point.
  
  

Beach Volleyball Leagues

• Beach volleyball is played on sand courts with two to six players and has a number of leagues which supports it's play in places with beaches or large amounts of sand, ranging from the coast to the desert. The games played in these leagues follow United States Beach Volleyball rules and the teams are often responsible for bringing their own balls and smoothing out the sand on the courts so that there are no divots or holes made for the next league games. The most popular form of beach volleyball is two-person volleyball, which takes an incredible amount of athletic skill. These beach volleyball leagues often have tournaments which sometimes have professional players.
