How to Install a Language for OpenOffice

    Add Text Languages

    • 1). Start the particular OpenOffice application you wish to add a different language to, such as Draw, Base or Writer.

    • 2). Click on the "Tools" menu followed by "Language" selection and then click on "More Dictionaries Online." Your website browser will automatically open to the text language selection page.

    • 3). Scroll through the list of languages and click on the link beside the desired language you wish to install. Save the ".oxt" file to your computer when the Internet browser dialog box appears on your screen.

    • 4). Switch back to your open office program and click on "Tools" followed by "Extension Manager." Click on the "Add" button located at the bottom of the extension manager dialog box. Locate and highlight the ".oxt" file that you had previously downloaded.

    • 5). Click on the "Open" button on the extension manager dialog box once you have located and highlighted the language file. Restart OpenOffice for the changes to take effect.

    Change The User Interface Language

    • 1). Open one of the OpenOffice applications and click on the "Tools" menu followed by "Options." Click on the "Languages" option on the left side menu pane.

    • 2). Choose your desired language from the drop-down boxes labeled "UI", located on the right side of the dialog box. If your language preference is not listed, see the resource section link for additional language packs.

    • 3). Restart OpenOffice including the quick starter application located on your system tray for the changes to take effect.
