How to Purchase Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft no longer sells Windows XP Home Edition directly from its website. The operating system package can however, be bought from many computer retailers throughout the country and online. Be sure when purchasing online that the license is included and it has not already been registered with Microsoft.
- In order to run Windows XP Home Edition, a computer must meet the minimum system requirements. These are: a Pentium 233-megahertz processor or faster, 64 MB of RAM, 1.5 GB of hard drive space, a CD-ROM drive, a sound card and a video adapter. Monitors are required to support at least Super VGA 800 x 600 resolution. Most modern computers meet these standards.
- Microsoft has announced that it is ending the production and sale of Windows XP as of October 2010. It is still planning to provide technical support as well as important security upgrades for this operating system until April 2014, after which, there will no further technical support for users and no new software developed that is compatible for Windows XP.
