Possible Treatment for Reversing Emphysema, COPD Uncovered

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is chronic and life-threatening disease whose main symptoms are shortness of breath and excess of phlegm and one of its manifestations is emphysema.
Emphysema is a condition in which alveolar passages narrow down and lung tissue degenerates.
Air trapped in alveoli causes them to expand and rupture, thus obstructing breathing.
Genetics and exposure to polluted air, especially tobacco smoke are known as primary causative factors for this life-threatening condition.
Pulmonary blood vessels undergo changes and induce high blood pressure leading to emphysema.
Sometimes this condition is brought about by high levels of nitric oxide leading to formation of peroxynitrite that causes destruction of lung tissues.
Nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) enzyme causes excess of nitric oxide and trials are underway with iNOS inhibitors to stop progression.
Emphysema is a progressive condition, causing increasing damage with passage of time and there are no known cures so far.
At best the condition can be managed through exercise, dietary controls, medications, oxygen and surgery in severe cases.
So far researches have shown no practical way to reverse the condition and induce healing as well as regeneration of alveoli.
Different methods have been tried to stop or reverse this condition.
Among these are the increased use of probiotics, retinoic acid (vitamin A) and Omega3 rich foods to strengthen the immune system; absolutely remove foods that result in higher levels of blood sugar and use of N-acetyl-l-cysteine, a drug that takes care of excess mucus.
The aim is to increase alkalinity in the body as a step towards regression of the disease.
A patient's condition is closely monitored during the therapy and any medication or food that interferes is removed.
For people with emphysema it is an uphill task to maintain normalcy and then make the extra effort at reversing it.
However, with time, patience and perseverance, it is not entirely impossible as many have testified.
Since each patient's condition differs, it takes some trials to establish use of appropriate methods, supplements and lifestyle changes that show positive results.
Patients can try out any or all of the methods such as use of probiotics, vitamin A and appropriate diet.
However, for reversal to occur, the primary symptoms need to be controlled and removed.
Since ages people with COPD have experienced relief when they breathe air in salt caverns.
Micronized salt particles in caverns gets into alveolar passages.
Salt kills bacteria, reduces inflammation and helps to expel mucus, setting the stage for further therapeutic remedies that then are more effective.
Practical as it is, not everyone can afford to spend all their time in salt caverns.
A better solution is a micronized salt particle dispensing device.
It recreates the same conditions prevailing in salt caverns by transforming saline solution into particles 5 microns or less through ultrasonic vibrations.
Those with emphysema breathe in air rich in salt particles and salt does its work while they can relax or work in normal surroundings.
It sets the stage for recovery if the use of salt aerosol is accompanied with appropriate food and lifestyle changes in consultation with a doctor.
