How to Fix Golf Cart Batteries
- 1). Park the golf cart in a safe place where you will not encounter traffic. Engage the safety brake.
- 2). Attach a battery charger to determine if the battery charges correctly and completely. The battery should accept a charge. If it is fully charged, it will not.
- 3). Observe if the key setting and the gears are in the correct starting position. This will vary from golf cart to golf cart. Check the position the key and gear should be on your cart.
- 4). Open the golf cart seat and search for the battery. Keep the seat propped up by its hinges. Look for signs of corrosion or rust around the battery terminals. It is a good idea to clean the terminals while you have the seat up and the battery exposed.
- 5). Observe the level of the water in the battery. Many carts have a gauge that shows how much water is in the battery and a line that says the water level is too low. If it is too low, fill it up to the FILL line with distilled or boiled and cooled water.
- 6). Inspect all the connections and the covering of the wires. If any seem frayed or exposed, use electric tape to cover them. Replace any wires that seem badly damaged. This could keep the power from flowing to the golf cart from the battery.
- 7). Inspect the connections to ensure they are secure and tight. Use a small screwdriver or pliers to tighten loose connections.
