    • 1). Remove your USB phone card from your computer or other wireless hub device. Turn your computer on and log in to your desktop.

    • 2). Go to "Add or Remove Programs" on your computer, then right-click and remove the older version of Mobile Connect, if present. Install the most updated software for your Vodafone: Version 2.0. Navigate to the first link in the Resources section and click "Vodafone Mobile Broadband--Latest Software," which is compatible with Windows Vista and 7.

    • 3). Finish the installation process, choosing your language, plan type (pre-paid is an option) and personal and device data. Accept the installation and reboot your computer.

    • 4). Choose "Next" once prompted after reboot, then "Vodafone Mobile Connect Card," and "Next" again.

    • 5). Plug your Vodafone Mobile Connect data card into your computer. Wait for it to be detected and choose "Finish."

    • 6). Click "Connect" when prompted, which will connect with your current service provider. Hit "Cancel" when an error occurs, then go to "Settings," then "Manage devices," then "Edit." Choose your carrier's APN and change authentication. The DNS settings should be blank for a 3G service plan. Click on "OK" and "Apply."

If you are continuing on with this carrier, your device should be unlocked to use with this plan. Call your carrier (see the second link in the Resources section) if you're still locked out of service. If you're trying to use your Mobile Connect USB data card with a new service, continue to Step 7.

    • 7). Call Vodafone support. (See the second link in the Resources section for a list of contact information by country.) Give a representative your model number and IMEI number and ask for your device to be unlocked. You will either be assessed penalties or offered an unlock code. It depends on the circumstances and the status of your billing history. If you tell him you're planning to be back and will just be visiting another country, you're more likely to get your code than if you tell them you want to start fresh with a new carrier. If you're denied, ask your new carrier for a data card with your new plan.
