    • 1). Connect the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the back of the DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port in the wall. If your home does not have a specially designed Ethernet cable (most older homes do not), you can insert an adapter into the phone jack in the room. Plug the Ethernet cable into the adapter. Don't worry--it does not take over the phone line when the Internet is in use. When you purchase your Internet package from your company, the technician will bring these to your home.

    • 2). Insert a second Ethernet cable into one of the "Out" ports on the modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on your laptop computer.

    • 3). Power on the Ethernet modem. In a moment the computer will state it has detected an Internet connection.

    • 4). Click the Wired Internet icon in the lower right corner of the desktop. This launches a small window stating your computer is connected to the Internet.

    • 5). Launch the Internet browser installed on your computer. The Internet loads, and you can begin using the Web.
