Symptoms of Rosacea and some ways to prevent it

Rosacea is known by : 
  • Redness on the face (erythema)
  • Dry and sensitive skin, with burning sensation
  • A tendency to blush easily on the cheeks, but sometimes on the nose, forehead and chin. Flushing or redness of access, are triggered by emotions, and temperature changes. They often occur after meals.
  • Small visible blood vessels on the nose and cheeks (telangiectasia or rosacea)
  • Small red pimples and solid (papules) or pus-filled (pustules) on the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin.
  • Dry eyes, red and irritated
  • Nose red, swollen and covered with nodules, with advanced disease

People at risk :
  • People with pale skin, usually of Irish descent, Scottish or Northern European (Scandinavian countries).
  • People whose parents have suffered from rosacea, as hereditary factors increase the risk of being infected.
  • Women, who are twice as affected as men.

Measures to prevent the worsening of symptoms and deduce the intensity:

At first, look what symptoms worse then learn how to manage or avoid these triggers. Keeping a diary of symptoms can be very useful.

The following measures can often reduce the severity of symptoms:
  • avoid as much as possible out of the sun. If this is done, always apply a good sunscreen, summer and winter;
  • avoid consuming foods and beverages that contribute to the dilation of blood vessels: coffee, alcohol, hot drinks, spicy foods and other products that cause redness;
  • avoid exposure to extreme temperatures and high winds. Well protect the face from cold and wind during the winter. Also avoid rapid temperature changes;
  • if you feel that the face warm, for example after a meal or heavy physical activity, you can suck on ice to prevent facial flushing;
  • learn to relax to better manage stress and emotions;
  • avoid saunas and long hot baths;
  • except on medical advice, avoid applying creams containing corticosteroids on the face.

Facials :
  • Use a warm water, the temperature of the body, and a mild soap, unscented.
  • Many skin care products for skin contain ingredients that can aggravate rosacea (acids, alcohol, etc.).. Inquire with your pharmacist, doctor's or dermatologist to determine the adjusted those with rosacea.
  • Regularly apply a moisturizer on your face, so as to reduce the burning sensation and dryness of the skin. Inquire with your pharmacist, doctor's or a dermatologist for a cream suitable for skin with rosacea. Lotions containing 0.1% kinetin (N6-furfuryladenine) seem effective to moisturize the skin and reduce symptoms.
  • Avoid greasy cosmetics and foundations, which can aggravate inflammation.
