A Natural Way of Killing Grass Weeds
- Kill lawn weeds with salt and white vinegar. Purchase about 4 qts. of distilled vinegar and boil it on the stove in a large pot or pan. Vinegar creates very unpleasant fumes when heated, so keep your face away from the mixture during preparation. Turn the heat down when the mixture begins bubbling and mix in a cupful of salt until totally dissolved. Let the solution cool and put it in a spray bottle. Apply it to the weeds in your lawn. This mixture kills other vegetation as well as weeds, so be careful when spraying.
- Boiling water is very effective at killing any kind of plants or vegetation including lawn weeds. Pour boiling water over the weeds. Cut off the top layer of the weed before applying.
- Mulch is usually made from compost, bark, grass clippings and other organic substances. It is used to maintain moisture levels in grass and soil. Applying mulch to garden soil inhibits the growth of existing weeds and deters new weeds from growing. Mulch can be purchased from gardening stores, or you can make your own. Shredded bark, cocoa bean hulls and straw cuttings are especially effective ingredients to tackle weed growth.
- Alcohol has astringent properties that are highly effective at poisoning weeds. Pour 3 or 4 tbsp. of alcohol into a jar and mix with a quart of water. Apply the mixture directly to the weeds using a spray bottle. Be careful where you spray, as alcohol damages other plants as well.
