30 Days with iPhone – Day 2 – Activation Woes
Obviously, that’s a pretty poor first impression to make, especially for a product that cost $500-$600.
It seems, though, that this is the kind of problem that’s typical of AT&T.
Practically every friend who I discussed the iPhone with prior to its launch asked what carrier it was on. When I told them AT&T, I saw funny faces, heard groans and even some swear words. My friend Christine, who is a pretty die-hard Apple fan and loves her technology, won’t buy an iPhone until she can get it on a carrier other than AT&T.
Unlike Apple, it seems that AT&T isn’t so good at making fans out of its customers.
I experienced this yesterday with my difficulties — and ultimate failure — with porting my number from T-Mobile to AT&T. I also experienced some slight activation delays. I went through the process in iTunes and when it came time for my phone to be activated, I got the dreaded message that many people have been seeing this weekend: that I’d get an email from AT&T when activation was complete. Lucky for me, I got that email less than 10 minutes later.
Still, I was pretty annoyed, so I can sympathize with those who are having to wait many hours or days for activation.
IPhone Screen Quality
I spent all of my first day with the iPhone after the sun had gone. As a result, I couldn’t see much about the physical surface of the screen. The colors and brightness just overwhelmed it.
Today, with daylight aiding me, I’m able to see how quickly the iPhone’s screen gets smudges from my fingers on it. Luckily, a quick rub with a soft cloth or t-shirt gets the smudges off. Otherwise, the screen continues to be beautiful. People fall in love with the thing as soon as it lights up.
