Sleeping is an important daily activity that is essential for overall health and well being.
If you lack adequate amounts of sleep, it will certainly show through physical manifestations of the body.
You'll not only feel tired but lack of sleep may also affect your mood and ability to pay attention.
Students who love to party all night and get little sleep aren't doing themselves a favor.
The National Sleep Foundation says over a quarter of high school students fall asleep in class and this has been linked to low grades.
In addition, the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration said that lack of sleep is responsible for more than 100,000 accidents, 40,000 injuries, and 1,500 deaths yearly in the US.
The victims are often young adults under the age of 25 who are commonly involved in drowsy driving accidents.
There is also a connection between lack of sleep and emotional problems.
Feelings of sadness and depression are common in those with little sleep.
Alertness also suffers from lack of sleep.
For example, forgetfulness is linked to sleep deprivation.
If you can't remember where you put the car keys, chances are you are lacking adequate amounts of sleep.
Sleeping refreshes and energizes the brain.
If you lack sleep, your short-term memory is impaired.
A lack of sleep may also impair vocabulary and language skills.
Sleep-deficient individuals may have difficulty carrying on a conversation.
Since their minds are not well rested, even the wittiest individual may have problems recollecting those charming one-liners.
Irritability may be another indication that you are lacking enough sleep.
Ever notice how little things annoy and upset you? Such touchiness may be caused by a lack of sleep as well.
