This heated issue has been heavily debated for almost 30 years.
It seems to be one of those die hard controversies that remains reported as "unsolved.
".
Have you noticed that? Whether you call yourself a feminist, a non-feminist or have completely avoided that label, deciding to be a stay at home mom may be more black and white than what you think! As a Stay at Home Mom of 10 years I can speak from experience.
It was just over a decade ago that I walked away from an executive level position with a $52k+ salary, a car, expense account and cell phone.
It wasn't easy! Especially since my husband only made $14K more than I did at the time.
We were truly losing almost half of our income.
The catalyst to this decision was when we determined that our son was just not thriving in his daycare situation.
Now believe me, we paid top dollar, had the best references etc.
But still, it wasn't working.
I had grappled with the decision to be a stay at home mom during my family leave of three months.
I can still remember the first day I went back to work, leaving my then 4 month old in the care of someone else.
I spent as much time as I could hiding out in the women's restroom crying.
After Fighting back tears and forcing myself to be stoic, I settled into my corporate routine and bought into the whole "your son is better off with you working, you don't want to give up your career that you've worked so hard for, you'll never make it financially without your income thing!.
" What a bunch of Hype! The truth of the matter is this, no child is better off in the care of someone else unless their parents are unfit.
(that's a whole other issue).
No one has your child's best interest at heart the way you do, period.
You can't buy that kind of investment.
I could go on and on about this, but why? It's a simple truth, unfortunately some still refuse to accept it by coming out with studies, statistics and opinions that are nothing more than platitudes for justifying greed or self indulgence.
Before we go any further, let me clarify something.
The scenario that I am speaking about is a Married Couple both working out of the Home and filing jointly on their tax returns.
