    • 1). Remove any newly installed software on your computer. Click on the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen and select "Control Panel." Click on "Uninstall a Program" to bring up a list of installed programs, click the program to select it, and click the "Uninstall" button from the top of the Window. Reboot the computer.

    • 2). Locate any possible software conflicts. The most common of these is a conflict between an antivirus software and the Windows firewall. Click on the Windows icon and select the "Control Panel." Select "Security" from the choices. Click on "Turn Windows Firewall On/Off."

    • 3). Insert the Windows Vista DVD into your disc drive and reboot your computer. When the Windows Vista installation screen appears, click on "Repair My Computer" to begin the Vista repair. This may help repair the infected files.

    • 4). Place the Windows disc into the disc drive when Windows is running. Click on the Windows icon, type "Cmd.exe" and press "Enter" to open the command prompt.

Type "expand X:\i386\sysoc.in_ c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf," where "X" is the letter of the CD drive and "Sysoc.in_" and "sysoc.inf" are the files you want to extract and replace. The files that may need replacing for a Blue Screen of Death fix are: "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe," "C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe," "C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe," "C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe," "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe" and "C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe."
