What do you do if you are a country that is faced with the a growing need for housing solutions and no land space left to utilize? You build on the water.
That is what one company in the Netherlands has done.
We are not talking of a couple of houses either we mean a whole housing scheme of several hundred homes.
The houses are made of wood and aluminum.
This is so as to make them nice and light so they are easier to float.
So what about bad weather you might be thinking.
.
.
well, they have kept that in mind in the construction process also, and as such they are built to withstand gales.
There are a whole lot of people already lined up,to buy these houses too, they are going for between one hundred and eighty thousand to a half a million dollars.
There are mixed reviews of the idea, but the advantages of living in floating houses includes the global warming scenario.
If the polar ice caps should melt and towns becomes inundated with water, millions of people will loose their houses and its only those that are floating that will be safe, and saved.
The houses will be connected by walkways and are detachable.
All the houses can be relocated at any time with the use of a tug boat.
They are not built way out in the heavy sea either, only about one hundred meters from shore, and have a walkway that links them to the main land too,so the owners don't have to think about the need to go buying a boat.
