What Do I Need to Have a Lifeline Installed?
- The Lifeline communicator will plug into any telephone jack in your house, just like a normal telephone. You won't need a spare jack or splitter, since it has its own port for your existing phone. You will also need an electrical outlet near the phone jack or a safe extension cord.
- Once the communication equipment is installed, before Lifeline can assist in an emergency they will require some instructions from you as to who to call. Contacts may be a neighbor or nearby friend; some Lifeline users instruct Lifeline to call 911 directly.

The Lifeline providers will need a way to access your home in an emergency. This can range from a key under the doormat to a local key-holder or a lock box on your premises with a key inside and a code for the emergency services. - Standard telephone services use land lines which run from wall jacks in your home. Some homes are converting to cable phone suppliers or computer telephone services such as Voice Over Internet Protocol or VOIP. These may not be compatible with the Lifeline communicator, or may offer an incomplete service. If you are not sure whether you have a standard phone service, contact Lifeline directly for advice.
