- 1). Insert your Windows XP operating system disk in your optical media (CD/DVD) drive and restart your computer.
- 2). Press a key on your keyboard when you get the prompt saying "Press any key to boot from CD."
- 3). Press "R" when you get a welcome message. This starts the recovery console on your computer.
- 4). Log in with your administrator account if you are requested to do so.
- 5). Type "format x: /fs NTFS," replacing "x" with the correct letter of the hard drive where Windows XP is installed, then press "Enter" or "Return" on your keyboard. (You should omit the quotation marks from the command.)
