Does child anxiety disorder exist? The answer is a very definite yes and the occurrence of child anxiety disorder is becoming ever more prevalent by the day.
Child anxiety are very much the same as the disorders which adults have, in fact a lot of the anxiety disorders which adults realise they have later on in life actually have their foundations in the individuals childhood.
Let's take for example one of the very first types of child anxiety disorder which is able to be detected even in infancy, this is separation anxiety which is even present sometimes in the case of babies.
Separation anxiety disorder is the triggered in the child or baby's mind when the feeling or belief sets in that the loved one or care giver which they are being separated from will not return.
Now in most cases this is not true, but the fear of the situation is a very real reality to the little one and will often be there first taste of anxiety and possibly the beginning of an anxiety disorder.
Let us first take the example of a young child being left with a baby sitter or care giver while mom and dad take the time to go for a special romantic night out.
Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with this and it is perfectly natural for parents to want to have a bit of alone time without the children.
The problem however is when the child might be prone to worry a lot, this sudden and unusual separation may then trigger the first signs of anxiety in the child such as inability to sleep, sudden moodiness, outburst of anger or even the fear of never seeing the parents again.
Now this is where the entire cycle of anxiety may get a hold in the Child's life and continue to grow from there.
Always be certain to explain to the young child where it is you are going and give them the reassurance that you will be back, even if you are just going down to the shop to buy milk, never just disappear simply to avoid the inevitable questions which will have to be answered when you just want to pop out quickly.
By simply giving this reassurance even to a baby, you will be amazed at how far it can go to preventing a child anxiety disorder from taking hold in the little ones life.
