How to Get an Additional Cable TV Line Installed

    • 1). Decide where you want to install the coaxial splitter. This will depend on where you want to install the new cable jack. In most cases, the central cable input ends up in the attic and spreads out through the house through wall spaces. You'll want to choose a location either near a jack in a room or the central hub inside walls -- the location that is the closest and will require the least drywall cutting is ideal.

    • 2). Install the splitter. This requires unscrewing the existing cable connection, either at a jack or at the central hub, adding the splitter, and then screwing the old cable back into place on one of the jacks on the filter. Then you can screw the new cable onto the other connection.

    • 3). Run the cable to the spot in the wall behind your desired jack location. This can continue a run of wire that ended at a jack in an adjacent room or can drop down from the central location.

    • 4). Cut a rectangular hole in the drywall that will accommodate the new cable jack and plastic cover. Attach the jack to the hole in the cover and then screw the cover into place. Run coaxial cable from this jack to your other television or additional cable box, if your service requires a box at each set. Then connect the box to the set.
