How to Grow Vegetables From Cuttings
- 1). Cut a 4- to 6-inch piece of stem from the tip of the plant, preferably a new shoot. Remove the leaves from the bottom half.
- 2). Fill a small jar or juice glass with water. Place the lower half in the water. Do not let the water cover the leaves.
- 3). Replace the water with clean water periodically and maintain the water level until roots develop.
- 4). Take the cutting out of the water once it has grown some established roots. Gently place it in a 4-inch pot that has been mostly filled with a potting mix containing peat.
- 5). Cover the roots with soil and lightly tamp the dirt. Do not press hard, or you may damage the roots.
- 1). Cut a foot-long piece of runner from the plant. Root vegetables left to sit out will grow runners on their own.
- 2). Take all the leaves off the runner except for the small leaves at the tip.
- 3). Plant the cutting by burying the whole length in the potting mix with only the small leaves sitting above the soil.
